Please take a moment and consider the following questions to see if you are the mentor/role model we are looking for:
-
I understand the principle: ‘it takes a community to raise a child’.
-
I believe in the importance of supporting our future generations.
-
I am troubled by the Aboriginal youth suicide rates, racism and bullying.
-
I wish every young Aboriginal person felt proud of who they are.
-
I want to protect young people against further suffering the impacts of oppression from colonization.
-
I believe it is possible, with support and guidance that our Aboriginal youth who seem to have lost their way can grow into confident healthy Anishinabe leaders of tomorrow.
-
I am grateful for gifts I have received, lessons I have learned through life’s struggles and opportunities that came to me, and now I want to give back!
-
I am aware of the incredible impact one adult role model can have in the life of a young person.
-
I am willing to help make a difference in the life of one Aboriginal youth by participating in Project ALLY and then making myself accessible, and making an effort to volunteer some time as an ally (‘adopted auntie or uncle’ so-to-speak) for this young person in need of guidance.
-
I am 25 years of age or older.
-
I do not have a criminal record or outstanding criminal charges.
If you answered YES to the questions above, you already are an Aboriginal Leader in our community and we ask that you please apply to become a mentor to share the gift of your time and kindness. It is very likely this experience will positively impact YOUR life in more ways than you can imagine!
If you are still reading this, you likely agree that it is essential that Project ALLY provides our youth with a safe, secure and trusting environment. Project ALLY is entrusting Aboriginal Mentors with a tremendous responsibility and as such, it is a requirement that Mentors complete an application process.
